Inauguration of Kamigumi dates back to 1867 (Keio 3). This year, Kobe port was opened for foreign trade and Customs house called ?Unjyou-sho? for foreign cargo trade was set up. Our company, then called ?Kobe Hamanaka?, was ordered to handle the cargo coming in and out of the Unjyo-sho.
This is the origin of our company.

Soon, the Kobe port begun to develop, and the scope of operation expanded dramatically, splitting ?Kobe Hamanaka?into several companies area-wise in 1873 (Meiji 6).

One company, under the operation at the cargo area called ?Yoseba? located in the northern Tobu area or ?Kami-gata?, changed its trade name to ?Kamigumi Hamanaka?. Here appeared the name that had given roots to our company name, ?Kamigumi?.
