Our suppliers mangrove kelong

After months of research and sourcing which included travelling to nearby countries, we shortlisted our suppliers after intensive inspections. These inspections were based on the way they operate, licences and permits, employees knowledge of crabs and most importantly the quality of crabs and their treatment and handling processes. We also wanted a supplier that was efficient, consistent and had the highest standards of hygiene when it came to both livestock and upkeep of kelong/farms.

This is how we at EATING-CRABS.COM get our crabs.
We choose our preferred suppliers from countries like Sri Lanka, India and other SEA countries.

These suppliers in turn buy freshly caught crabs everyday from local fishermen
After being bought from the locals, the crabs are then transported immediately to the kelongs of the suppliers.

At the kelongs the crabs are sorted, graded and 'fattened' all whilst being kept in a stress free environment.

Everyday, suppliers will fly the crabs to us in Singapore as live cargo.
Followed by clearance from Singapore customs and immigrations.
They are then transported to our HQ where they are sorted by sex, weight and size and *'quarantined' individually in our state of the art 'cell' holding system where they are kept untied and able to swim freely in fresh brackish water.

*the reason to quarantine is;
-to ensure crabs recover in the most relaxed environment after their journey
-to allow them to wet their gills
-to ensure they do not harm/damage other crabs resulting in mediocre stock
-to enable us to immediately detect any unhealthy or unsatisfactory crab
